A lab for the space between questions and systems
An opening note on what Hallpass Labs intends to study, build, and share.

Hallpass Labs is an independent research and development lab. We study emerging technology and build useful systems from what we learn.
This is a note about the work we intend to do, and how we want to talk about it as that work takes shape.
Begin with the question
A new capability can make a familiar problem look solvable overnight. Before choosing a tool, we want to understand the people, constraints, and decisions around the problem. That context should shape what gets built.
Our process starts with a question we can make specific, then moves toward a working system that can be examined and improved. Research and building are parts of the same loop.
Build in the open when we can
Our first product direction is a Discord bot and management system for the Hallpass Labs community. It gives us a concrete place to work through questions about coordination, moderation, and useful automation. It is in development; we will share its behavior and decisions as they become real.
We want future writing to be equally grounded. A prototype, an observation, and a result are different things. We will say which one we mean.
Directions we’re developing
We are exploring AI Training and Forward Deployment as ways to bring our research and building practice into other organizations. The shape and availability of these services are still being developed.
The lab can draw on a multidisciplinary talent pool as projects take shape. What matters is assembling the right mix of research, design, and engineering around a well-defined problem, rather than presenting a fixed menu before we have done the work.
Start a conversation
If you have a question about emerging technology, an idea to test, or a system that needs careful design and development, we would like to hear the context. A conversation is the right place to begin.
